Description

This is a special series of 47 unglazed tiles modeled by Arthur Osborne. It was published in 1882 as a small, inexpensive booklet and, later, in 1886 as a deluxe edition with a satin cover. The digitized version is of an incomplete deluxe edition of 27 of the plates. Arthur Osborne’s signature, the letter “A” inside a circle, is evident in the bottom right corner of each modeled tile.Photographs of reproduction tiles made after the original plastic sketches of Arthur Osborne. Library's copy consists of front and back covers and 27 plates. Complete edition has 12 pages of text, including list of Plastic Sketches; Some Comments Upon Plastic Sketches, an essay by Sylvester Baxter; and 47 plates.
