Abstract
My insides remind me how I am filled with rage, sadness and love. I often imagine what it would have been like if my family decided to stay home, within a land of paradise. A foreign soil that promised the root of self.
BELOW HER is a gathering of memories, exchanges, dreams, traditions and poems between my mother and myself that have been researched and recorded in person, over long phone calls, and through many travels between Detroit and Richmond in the past two years. These recordings and recollections serve as a personal tool of navigation within a society that challenges access to understanding and a rediscovering of the lines that lead back to home.
Here, I begin to nurture the seed I had planted many years prior.
