Abstract
The Women Who Weren’t Brave is a thesis in two genres: creative nonfiction in the form of 19 essays and fiction in the form of one short story and one excerpt of a novel. In both genres, the thesis examines the ways that women in America learn from one another how to gain, express, use, lose, and sacrifice their physical agency.
