Description
After the 1997 city-suburban school district merger in Chattanooga-Hamilton County, the district adopted several policies designed to take advantage of a more racially diverse enrollment. Specifically, district officials undertook a modest effort to rezone attendance lines to promote diversity and also to expand the existing system of magnet schools. Map 4 shows that, over the years, those efforts were associated with slowly declining school segregation.
