Abstract
THE FALL LINE IN SUMMER. The old governor’s mansion, or whatever it is, atop the hill at 4th St. RVA. I’ve never stepped on this wide expanse of green before this picture was taken. From this vantage point you can see clear across the James River, the Belvidere Bridge, and the financial district to the South. There isn’t much open space like this left in the city, and it leads me to imagine, as I often do, what the first people who lay eyes on this vista would have seen. All I know for sure is that post-Industrialization, the city of Richmond has reclaimed it’s waterfront from factories and warehouses, and has made them accessible and enjoyable public spaces.
