The Compass is an annual orientation guide for VCU students produced by the VCU Student Media Centered. The guide is distributed physically during summer orientation sessions for new and transfer students. From the 2018 guide: "Serving as the ultimate survival guide, The Compass features a wide variety of stories told from the perspective of current students to help new students and their parents familiarize themselves with VCU and Richmond. The Student Media Collective is comprised of members of our student-run media organizations, and The Compass was written and edited by those students." The publication includes short articles, illustrations, letters of welcome from students and administrators, comics, and advertisements from VCU and Richmond organizations.
