Description

This elementary art lesson introduces students to Derrick Adams’s use of fragmentation to create abstract portraits and scenes from their own personal visual culture.

Students will brainstorm ideas of imagery that they frequently see in the media: TV, social media, YouTube, etc. Each student will choose an image to draw inside a corresponding frame (television set, tablet, phone, laptop screen, etc.), and apply Derrick Adams’s style of fragmentation and use of SMPTE color bars.
