Abstract
"On Art: by Lydia Douce" provides coverage of a year (1989) in the life of the visual arts in Richmond, Virginia. Artists reviewed include VCU faculty such as James Bradford, Reni Gower, Richard Carylon, and Richard Kevorkian; and national and international artists who exhibited in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and VCU's Anderson Gallery, such as Clemens Weiss. The September issue features a discussion on the controversy around the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as it came under pressure from Senator Jesse Helms. Authorship was at the time anonymous.
