Abstract
In this paper I will trace the effects of colonialism and the nationalism, conceptions of deserts as empty spaces form a sense of place and create a subjecthood and orientation that is unable to freely move through the landscape. I relate these structures to the thesis installation titled Anywhere I Stand I Block the Flow of the Wind that was installed at theVCU Anderson Gallery on April 9 2021.
