Abstract
The poems in this collection encompass two major threads, one being the disappearance of the author’s brother and the reverberations of that loss throughout her family; the second thread contains monologues of a mother in a post-apocalyptic future, who is raising a preternatural child named Doom. Throughout the series, Doom’s abilities are god-like and can just as easily tip the scale to destruction. Ultimately, they allow the relationship between parent and child in difficult circumstances to be explored. Other poems encompass moments of the author’s childhood, contend with loss, witness love and beauty, and sit in contemplation.
