Abstract
The Lantern Keeper’s Daughter is a novel excerpt and The Bind Off Edge is a collection of creative nonfiction essays. The novel in progress follows Wynn, a young woman whose father is Master Keeper of a magically powered lighthouse. When disaster strikes, she must team up with a mysterious Warden named Cade, and embark on a quest to prove her father’s innocence. The novel is a coming of age story that considers the complicated relationship between a vulnerable parent and their child. The essays investigate the links between art, craft, tradition, and history, through the personal. They ask how the act of making shapes us, and whether the objects we hold closest can tell us not only about ourselves, but about those that have come before us. Though wide-ranging in scope, at the heart of every essay is a search both to understand and to see in new ways.
