Original Description (transcribed from book)

This is the exceptional castellated armory of the First Battalion of the Virginia Volunteers. Built in 1899, this almost "Fairytale" armory was the headquarters for the City's black regiment. The battlement, towers and moulded brickwork are all very fine and unusual. It now serves as a gymnasium. The fire escape mars the architectural effect.

Original Note (transcribed from book)

100 Block of West Leigh Street - This block is now one sided since the enlargement of the school site on the south side of the street. The construction of Bo Jangles Park has given this block a lift.
