Description

Awarding of honorary diplomas at Prince Edward County High School, Prince Edward County, Va., on June 15, 2003. Some four hundred former Prince Edward County students were awarded honorary diplomas at Prince Edward County High School, which was formerly the "new" Robert R. Moton High School. These students were denied education when public schools were closed by the white oligarchy for five years (1959-1964) to avoid desegregation and compliance with the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court orders.
