Maggie L. Walker School (1938) is a public, comprehensive school, offering vocational, general, and college preparatory courses to 1100 day pupils and 600 adult, night pupils. It is located on 8 acres adjacent to U.S. Route 1, formerly the site of Harishorne Memorial College. Through its name it serves as a memorial to Mrs. Maggie Lena Walker, a great orator and fraternalist and the first woman bank president in the United States.
