During the war this site was used a recruiting and drill-ground, and afterwards as the State Fair grounds. Is now situated in the heart of the fashionable residence section of the City. Its shady walks and velvet lawn attract hundreds of children and nurses. It was first intended to erect the Davis Monument I this park, and a corner-stone was laid near the fountain.
