Card Text (transcribed from postcard)
This institution was established in 1838 and is situated on an eminence overlooking the valley of Shockoe Creek. The main building is a rare example of the ancient Egyptian order of architecture, and has attracted much attention. Recognizing the great need of surgeons for armies in the field, its course were continued without interruption during the whole of the Civil War. In January, 1913, the Univ. College of Medicine was merged with this institution, and by this consolidation, Richmond become possessed the largest and best equipped medical college in the South.
