Abstract
Child care can serve as an important developmental support for children, but is often a significant cost for families. Parents make decisions about child care that affect their financial and life circumstances, and the impact of providing care for their children is potentially substantial. Providing publicly funded universal child care could improve child development outcomes at the population level while reducing financial and caregiving burdens on families.
