This reel contains police surveillance footage of an American Nazi Party bus in Richmond, brought to the city by Matt Koehl to protest school desegregation busing. There are multiple clips of the bus in Richmond, as well as individuals in Nazi uniforms boarding the bus.

00:00:11 Footage begins. Footage of a yellow school bus parked on a street. Written on the back of the school bus: "White Power" on the top, "Box 5505, Arlington Va." in the center, and "GAS Race-Mixers!" on the bumper. On the side of the bus, at the top is written "N.S. White People's Party, Arlington Va." with a large banner on the side of the bus reading "BOYCOTT BUSING" with red Nazi swastikas in the center of both letter O's. A United States of America flag is attached to the banner near the first window on the bus. The footage appears to be filmed from the driver's seat of a car parked across the street.

Event Description

On February 15, 1972, leader of the American Nazi Party (renamed the National Socialist White People's Party in 1967), Matt Koehl, visited Richmond on a converted school bus outfitted with white supremacist messaging and messaging against school desegregation busing (Richmond Times-Dispatch, February 16, 1972). Koehl planned to meet with Governor Linwood Holton and U.S. District Court Robert R. Merhige Jr., though both were unavailable. He was joined by followers dressed as Nazi stormtroopers/Sturmabteilung (Wikipedia).
