Camp near Petersburg Nov {1864} 4th Dr. L[evin] S[mith] Joynes Dear Sir Inclosed I send you an application to attened lectures in the medical college at Rich- mond this winter. You will confer a great favour by presenting the applica- tion to the Surgeon Gen[era]l and suppose he will make the neccessary arrangements for me to accomplish the end desired. I have attended one course and am excee- dingly desirous to graduate. I am not able for any heavy duty now in consequence of a would recieved about three months back. I am now hospital Steward for our command, and have just learned that all hospital Stewards will be allowed to attend lectures this winter if they have attended a course previous to this time. Please attend to the matter and greatly oblidge. Your most recprectfully E[lliott] V[inson] Steadman [Addressed:] [Direct?] Co[mpany] B. 6th S[outh] C[arolina] Cavalry Butler's brigade Petersburg Va.
