Transcription
Medical Director's Office Richmond, Va June 16th 1864 Sir, After conference with the Surg[eon] Gen[era]l I have to say to you that the Med[ical] Department do not now consider it advisable to rent the "College Hospital", as the probabilities are that it will not be wanted. The Surg[eon] Gen[eral] informed me that the Purveyor would buy the articles of furniture & hardware in the Hospital, if they would be sold. I regret that I have not been able to be more decided with you before, but the course of affairs has been So uncertain, that I have not been able to form a {more} decided judgement of the requirements of Hospital room. If your Steward & resident physician want employment, I can give it to them. Very respectfully Yr. obt. Servt W[illia]m Carrington Med[ical] Director [Addressed:] Dr. L. S. Joynes Richmond
