Transcription
Jeffersonville Kentucky Feb[ruar]y 1 1862 Dr L[evin] S[mith] Joynes Dear Sir I received your favor of the 15th Jan[uary]y two days since, but owing to the press of business caused by the inauguration and supervision of several hos- pitals in this place I have literally been unable to answer it until now; a seeming want of deference which, under the circumstances, I feel well assured you will not find fault with. In regard to the Demonstratorship of Medical College of Va, should the Faculty be considerate enough to reelect me to that post, it was not my intention to tax their kindness for a further substitution, but to be present and perform the duties required by that office. With the best wishes for your wellfare I am Very Respectfully Yr obt Servt M[arion] Howard [Addressed:] To Dr L S Joynes Dean of the Faculty of the Medical College of Va Richmond Va [Endorsement:] Marion Howard M.D. Jeffersonville Ky.
