Description

Letter from Baillien Bros. to L. S. Joynes requesting payment for models.

Transcription

New York Dec 26 [18]60 Dr Joynes, Dear Sir, We have this day shipped on board F[rigate] Roanoke, a case containing the models imported for your College. Accompanying please find our Invoices amounting to $518.00 The Exchange on Richmond being now 10% we cannot of course, pay it, and as we should send the money to Europe, it would answer our purpose if the Bank which holds your ac[count] would send us instead of a Draft, a Bill of Exchange {at 60 days} on a London Bank for the amount. May we trouble you to see if your Bank can do this? If they will, of course not charging more than the current rates, (no commission added) please request them to do so. We hope to hear from you shortly in reference to this question, and begging you to accept our apologies for the trouble to which we put you We are Yours' truly Baillien Bros. [underscore]
