Joynes Dean of Faculty Dear Sir, Having noticed in an advertisement in yesterdays paper that the chair of "Demonstrator of Anatomy" is now vacant in your school, I hereby make application for the same, hoping it may meet with your kind approval Deeming letters of recommendation unnesessary. I am Y. obt. Ser E.L. Carter [underscored] E.L. Carter M.D. Richmond May 30 1863 Application for the post of Demonstrator of Anatomy.
