Petersburg V[irgini]a Camp Wright's Brigade Aug[ust] 31st 1864 Prof[essor] L.S. Joynes, MD Dean of the Med[ical]. College of V[irgini]a Richmond, V[irgini]a Professor your kind favor of the 27th inst[ant] has been revieved and I very respectfully, ask you pardon for again intruding myself upon you. My reasons for doing this is from the fact that my acquain- tence is so limited among the men of im- portance in your City, and also among those from my State (Georgia) to whom I should apply for assistance, and who may be sojour- ing there at present has forced me to throw myself upon the generosity of a Stranger Anything that you can do for me, whatever may be the result will be very highly appreci- ated by me and I will ever be on the alert to reciprocate such a favor. Enclosed I send you an application for the appointment of Hosp[ital] Steward with a Surgeon's certificate of disability and with favorable endorsements from my Com[man]d[in]g Officers. Judging from the Sta[te]ments in your letter I conclude that this was only resource left me. Hoping that I am not asking too great a favor of you and that I may yet succeed in my undertaking. I have the honor to be Very Respectfully Your Obt. Servt. Horace Nelson Co[mpany]. D. 48th G[eorgi]a Reg[iment] [Endorsement:] Horace Nelson Wright's Brigade Petersburg Aug[ust]. 31 1864 Enclosing Applica- tion for appointment of Hospital Steward
