Postcard Text
Said to be the first public building erected as soldiers memorial in U.S.; Vincennes, Ind. Knox County Court House erected in 1873 at a cost of more than $360,000 claimed to be first public building erected in U.S. as a soldier's memorial. Architecture exceptional. In addition to several beautiful tablets there is one in marble 21 feet high of George Rogers Clark. The sculpting is by Andrew Barrot of Carrara, Italy. It is carved from one piece of stone and weighs four tons. Nearby stands the $50,000 soldiers monument erected in 1914.
