Who Can Submit?
Anyone with a PhD, Masters, or a critical or artistic interest may submit an original essay to be considered for publication in Journal of Hip Hop Studies provided he, she, or they own/s the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Anyone can submit a short essay, poem or short story. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer). We encourage submissions by graduate students, contingent faculty, and independent scholars.
General Submission Rules
Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. If you have concerns about the submission terms for Journal of Hip Hop Studies, please contact the editors.
Formatting Requirements
Journal of Hip Hop Studies JHHS requires that essays are submitted according to Chicago Manual of Style submission. There are rules governing the formatting of the final submission. See Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for details. Although bepress can provide limited technical support, it is ultimately the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a Microsoft Word document, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.
It is understood that the current state of technology of Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is such that there are no, and can be no, guarantees that documents in PDF will work perfectly with all possible hardware and software configurations that readers may have.
Guideline for Authors
First the scholarly work will go through a preliminary review by the editor. Based on this review, manuscripts will either be forwarded to reviewers or rejected. After the first review, the author(s) will be contacted as to whether their submission is: accepted; accepted with minor revisions; major revisions needed/resubmit; or rejected. The review process for selected authors may be reviewed up to three more times. The author will provide the final approval before publishing.
Open Access Statement and Charges
All content JHHS publishes is freely available immediately upon publication without charge to the reader or their institution. JHHS does not have article processing charges (APCs) or article submission charges (ASCs).
