About This Journal

This journal is the publication of the McNair Scholars Program of Virginia Commonwealth University. It is published in the fall term and presents multidisciplinary works by undergraduate students researched and written under the supervision of VCU faculty/researchers.

  1. Showcasing Undergraduate Research:

The journal should focus on highlighting the best undergraduate research projects, emphasizing originality, methodology, results, and implications. Since the McNair Scholars Program is designed to prepare undergraduates for eventual doctoral studies, the research presented should be of high quality and relevant to the respective academic fields.

  2. Interdisciplinary Approach:

Given the diverse fields of study in a university setting, the journal could embrace an interdisciplinary approach. This would not only cater to a wide range of interests but also encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovation.

  3. Promoting Exceptional Contributions:

Each issue's feature of an outstanding scholar's work is a great incentive for students. This recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also sets a benchmark for aspiring researchers.

  4. Outreach and Community Engagement:

Since the journal aims to reach the national McNair community and a broader audience, it’s important to have a strategy for dissemination and engagement. This might include digital publications, social media outreach, and collaborations with other academic institutions and libraries.

  5. Support for Researchers:

Providing guidance and resources for undergraduate researchers can be part of the journal's mission. Workshops, seminars, and mentorship programs can help students develop their research skills and prepare their work for publication.

  6. Accessibility and Inclusivity:

Ensuring that the journal is accessible to a wide audience, including those with disabilities, is important. This can be achieved through clear, jargon-free language, multimedia supplements, and adherence to web accessibility standards.
