Wrights Brig[ade]: Hosp[ital] Near Petersburg Oct[ober] 10th 1864 L[evin S[mith] Joynes M.D. Richmond Va Dear Sir Enclosed you will please find my application to Surgeon Gen[era]l to be transfered to Richmond in order that I may attend your Medical School this winter In your letter to me (21st Aug[ust]) you advised me to persue this course and you would see that my application met the attention of Surgeon Gen[era]l I am extremly anxious to complete my medical studies as early as possible and any assistance you can be to aid my transfer will be confering a lasting favor Very Respectfully Jos[eph] H.
