Philosophy of Journal of Prison Education Research

For more information, please see Journal of Prison Education Research Aims and Scope page.

Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Journal of Prison Education Research provided the author(s) owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer). Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works.

Submission Process

Authors must create a Scholars Compass account to make a submission. All submissions will first be reviewed by the editorial team who will determine whether the manuscript meets our journal's scope and should be sent out for peer review. If the submission is beyond the scope of our journal, it will be returned to the author without further consideration. If the submission falls within the journal's scope but does not meet its submission criteria, it will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission. If the manuscript merits review, an Associate Editor will request a double-anonymous peer review process with two expert reviewers.

Double-Anonymous Peer Review Policy

The research articles in this journal undergo rigorous peer review prior to being published. Our peer review process is double-anonymous, which means that reviewers read manuscripts that do not name the identity of authors and authors do not know the identity of reviewers. Therefore, all identifying information should be removed from the initial manuscript by the author. Each submitted paper is assigned to an Associate Editor who sends accepted manuscripts to two reviewers selected for their expertise and publication record. The reviewers will return their recommendations to the Associate Editor within 28 days. The Associate Editor decides to reject, accept, or ask for revisions to the article and communicates directly with the authors and reviewers.

Copyright Policy

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms: Authors retain copyright, licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal. For more information, see https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Institutional & Repository Policy

Authors are free to deposit any version of their work (submitted, accepted, or published versions) in an institutional or other repository of the author’s choice without embargo.

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is a clear violation of our publication policy and may also represent copyright infringement. We define plagiarism as the misrepresentation of another's writings, ideas, or other creative work as one's own, including: verbatim copying, near-verbatim copying, or intentionally paraphrasing portions of another's work with incorrect source citation; using automated tools, including AI software, that rephrase existing work as one's text without proper attribution; copying elements of another's work, such as equations, tables, charts, illustrations or presentations that are not common knowledge, or copying or intentionally paraphrasing sentences without proper or complete source citation.

Open Access Policy

Our journal is an open access journal. Articles are free and available to all readers as soon as they are published. Authors do not pay to have their work published and they retain copyright on all of their work at all times under Creative Commons licensing.

Privacy Policy

Although accurate contact information is essential for anyone submitting work to our journal, it is our policy not to share or sell this information to third parties.
